Vietnam Ministry of Health to tighten medical training oversight

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health is tightening post-inspection measures for medical training to address issues with superficial training programs and improper certification. Officials noted that some institutions have organized training sessions that lack quality, particularly in technical expertise, which impacts the quality of the healthcare workforce. Additionally, health insurance agencies have identified instances where training certificates were issued in violation of regulations, affecting the reputation of medical facilities.

Starting in October, the Ministry will implement a decentralization policy, allowing both public and private institutions to autonomously organize training based on current criteria and standards rather than requiring prior appraisal and licensing. Dr. Nguyen Ngo Quang, Director of the Administration of Science, Technology and Training, emphasized that autonomy does not mean freedom to organize without oversight; institutions must strictly adhere to professional guidelines and remain accountable for quality.

The Ministry aims to shift focus from pre-inspection to enhanced post-inspection, targeting high-risk groups to ensure patient safety. The goal is to eliminate all non-compliant training practices by October 2026.
