Vietnam Ministry of Public Security updates identity card procedures

Vietnam's Minister of Public Security, Luong Tam Quang, has signed Decision No. 5230/QD-BCA-C06, introducing significant changes to administrative procedures regarding the issuance and management of identity cards.

The decision implements 10 new administrative procedures, 2 amended procedures, and abolishes 28 existing ones. The new procedures cover the issuance, renewal, and re-issuance of identity cards at the central, provincial, and communal levels.

Key updates include the ability to exploit information for citizens and people of Vietnamese origin with undetermined nationality within the national population database. Additionally, new protocols allow for the collection and updating of biometric data, such as DNA and voice, into the identity card database at the communal level.
