Vietnam MP Nguyễn Thị Việt Nga warns livestreams could distort youth values

MP Nguyễn Thị Việt Nga, a member of Vietnam's National Assembly and the Committee on Culture and Society, told Tiền Phong that her biggest concern is not a few offensive livestreams but the risk they pose of skewing young people's perception of values and success. She said, "Điều tôi lo ngại nhất không phải là một vài livestream phản cảm, mà là nguy cơ lệch chuẩn trong nhận thức về giá trị và thành công của một bộ phận thanh thiếu niên."

Ngã highlighted the rise of sensational, fabricated livestreams aimed at gaining views and likes, noting gaps between existing regulations and enforcement and the emergence of an “attention economy” where shocking content can generate revenue. She called for a healthier digital environment, stressing that platforms, content creators and users must bear higher responsibility—especially influential accounts—and that cultural and civic norms are needed beyond the legal minimums.
