Vietnam has been named the world’s top culinary destination for 2026 according to the NZ Herald Travel Readers’ Choice Awards. The country secured the first-place position, surpassing established gastronomic hubs such as Italy, Japan, Thailand, and France.

The top ten list includes Italy, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Melbourne, France, Auckland, Wellington, and Hawke’s Bay. The recognition highlights a growing global trend in food tourism, where travelers seek authentic local experiences, including traditional markets, street food, and cooking classes.

Vietnam’s culinary appeal is attributed to its rich traditions, fresh ingredients, and diverse regional flavors—ranging from the delicate tastes of the north to the spicy notes of the central region and the sweetness of the south.
