Vietnam’s government is accelerating a suite of large‑scale infrastructure projects on Phu Quoc Island to prepare for the APEC 2027 summit. Vice‑Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc chaired a progress review on 2 August 2026, noting that most works – including the airport expansion, conference centre, transport links and hotel capacity – are 98‑100 % complete and that the province aims to finish all works by 31 May 2027, about six months ahead of the summit.

Because standard investment, planning, land and environmental procedures can take 18‑36 months, the government drafted a special resolution to allow projects that began before 18 May 2026 to continue construction while legal paperwork is completed. Finance Minister Ngo Van Tuan presented the draft to the National Assembly on 3 August 2026. The resolution stresses that the fast‑track mechanisms will not legalise profit‑driven violations and that any offenders will be held accountable.
