Vietnam National Assembly passes resolution to protect judges
The National Assembly Standing Committee has passed a resolution establishing a protection regime for judges in Vietnam. The resolution outlines principles, measures, and procedures to protect judges during the performance of their official duties.
In addition to protecting the judges themselves, the measures extend to their relatives in cases where their lives, health, property, or legal rights are threatened due to the judge's professional responsibilities. The resolution defines the specific responsibilities of various agencies, organizations, and individuals in ensuring this protection.
Nguyen Van Quang, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court, noted that judges have faced various forms of infringement, including insults to dignity, mental pressure, obstruction of trials, and direct physical attacks. These incidents occur both in courtrooms and during field activities such as mediation or site inspections. The Chief Justice emphasized that the resolution is essential to prevent such acts, ensure judicial independence, and maintain public confidence in the justice system.
