Vietnam National Assembly readies extraordinary session on lawmaking and staffing

The Standing Committee of Vietnam’s National Assembly will hold its fourth meeting from 27‑30 July 2026, reviewing and commenting on a slate of draft laws and resolutions. Items include amendments to the criminal code, a law on state audit, policies for a coastal urban project in Da Nang, a consolidated state budget law, and proposals concerning a nuclear power plant, land law, urban development, auction of assets, real‑estate business, and housing law. The final day will also consider the establishment of Quảng Ninh city under central authority and a revised criminal procedure code.

The extraordinary session of the 16th National Assembly is scheduled to open on 3 August and close on 24 August, split into two periods. Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn and Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng will co‑chair preparatory meetings. The agenda covers 31 items, including 19 bills and resolutions, and decisions on personnel matters. The government has already submitted 25 of the 29 planned documents, with key drafts such as the land law amendment, criminal code revision, and urban development law expected to have significant economic and social impact.
