Vietnam National Organ Donation Coordination Center suspends online registration
The National Organ and Tissue Donation Coordination Center in Vietnam has suspended its online registration service to review and improve service quality. As of October 31, the center's website displayed a maintenance notice, preventing citizens from registering online.
The suspension follows reports on social media regarding a security loophole. It was alleged that an individual could use another person's name and Citizen Identity Card (CCCD) number to register for organ donation, as the system reportedly lacked identity verification for the provided ID, phone number, or email.
While online services are down, the center continues to accept organ donation registration applications in person or via mail. The center clarified that online registration is a free way to record a citizen's wishes and does not guarantee that organs will be harvested after death. According to Assoc. Prof. Duong Duc Hung, Director of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, organ donation must strictly follow legal regulations and professional processes, including objective brain death determination.
