Vietnam national walking event draws 1.7 million participants

The second annual “Together with Vietnam to move forward” national walking event took place on August 30, 2026, across 34 provinces and cities. Initiated in 2025 by the Nhân Dân newspaper and the Ministry of Public Security, the 2026 edition saw expanded participation from the Ministry of Defense and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

The event drew 1,774,268 participants who collectively recorded over 10 billion steps. General Phan Van Giang, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, praised the initiative as a way to build collective strength toward national prosperity. General Lê Văn Tuyên, Vice Minister of Public Security, noted the program promotes healthy lifestyles and a disciplined society. The scale of the event was officially recognized by Guinness World Records.
