Vietnam Navy supports fishermen to combat IUU fishing warnings

The Vietnamese Navy’s 682nd Brigade is conducting legal awareness campaigns and providing material support to local fishermen to help the nation lift the European Commission’s “yellow card” warning regarding Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing.

During recent activities, the brigade distributed educational materials, national flags, and essential supplies—including rice, life jackets, and lifebuoys—to 50 fishing households, prioritizing those following IUU regulations and those facing economic hardship. The brigade has also provided medical services, including free health check-ups and consultations, to hundreds of fishermen at various ports.

In a separate maritime development, a People’s Liberation Army Navy vessel formation from China conducted a friendly visit to Ho Chi Minh City, engaging in ceremonial meetings and sports exchanges to deepen defense cooperation and mutual trust between the two nations.
