Vietnam observes Vu Lan, honoring parents with prayers and modest attire

Vu Lan, also known as Ullambana, is a Buddhist day of filial piety celebrated in Vietnam each year. Families express gratitude to their parents and ancestors, sending heartfelt wishes for health, happiness and long life. One participant said, "Lại một mùa Vu Lan nữa lại về, không có từ ngữ nào có thể diễn tả công lao to lớn mà cha mẹ đã dành cho chúng con" ("Another Vu Lan season arrives, and no words can describe the great sacrifice of parents").

The festival also emphasizes appropriate dress when visiting temples; modest, clean clothing in colors such as white, blue or brown is considered respectful and helps maintain a solemn atmosphere. These customs reflect the cultural importance of honoring parents and preserving spiritual harmony.
