Vietnam offers free ID card reissuance via VNeID app

Citizens in Vietnam can now request the reissuance of lost or damaged identity cards online through the VNeID application. Under government Resolution No. 66/2026/NQ-CP regarding digital citizen development, eligible digital citizens are exempt from all fees for online ID card renewal or reissuance from August 15, 2026, until February 28, 2027.

The process utilizes previously collected biometric data, including facial images, fingerprints, and iris scans, meaning individuals do not need to visit police stations to provide new biometric information. The application allows users to apply for themselves or use a “declaration on behalf of others” feature to assist elderly relatives.

To complete the process, users must log into the VNeID app, navigate to “Administrative Procedures,” select “Reissue Identity Card,” and follow a five-step verification and submission process. Results and processing progress can be monitored directly within the application.
