Vietnam officially recognises Nguyen Thi Le as widow of war hero Huynh Van Quen

After nearly six decades of waiting, the Vietnamese government officially recognised Nguyen Thi Le as the wife of war hero Huynh Van Quen, who fell during the 1968 Spring‑May Offensive. The decision follows the recent discovery of Quen’s remains and personal effects at Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City, DNA testing of a family sample, and coordination between city and military authorities. A ceremony on 20 July in the Huynh family home in Tây Ninh formally granted her the legal status and attendant benefits, allowing the family to address her as “Chi Hai”. Le’s story highlights long‑standing personal sacrifice and the state’s effort to honour fallen soldiers and their surviving relatives.
