Vietnam officials attend Bloomberg New Economy Forum amid shifting global trade rules
Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Minh Hằng attended the 2026 Bloomberg New Economy Forum in India. The forum, themed “A World in Transition: Shaping New Levers of Power,” brought together over 500 global leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to discuss the future of global trade, supply chains, and investment.
Discussions focused on geopolitical risks, the impact of artificial intelligence, and the role of energy and critical minerals in shaping the global economy. Participants emphasized the need for economic resilience and the development of trusted partnerships amidst increasing global uncertainty.
Separately, experts at a seminar in Ho Chi Minh City highlighted new regulatory challenges for Vietnamese agricultural exporters targeting the EU and US markets. Key hurdles include the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which affects commodities like coffee, rubber, and cocoa, and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
Industry representatives noted that traceability and environmental data—such as emission levels and raw material origins—are becoming essential competitive requirements. Meeting these standards requires cooperation across entire supply chains, from farmers to processors, to ensure compliance with international sustainability and transparency mandates.
