Vietnam officials in Ninh Binh and Lang Son charged over misuse of public funds

Police investigators in Ninh Binh province have charged a former commune chairman, accountant and treasurer of the now‑merged La Sơn commune, along with a fourth official, for abusing their positions to divert more than 1.4 billion VND in land‑sale and auction revenues between 2012 and 2024. The funds were kept off official accounting books and spent in violation of regulations, causing losses to the state budget.

In Lang Son province, authorities have opened investigations into three cases involving the embezzlement of nearly 8 billion VND in merit money collected at historic sites such as Tam Thanh, Kỳ Cùng and Công Đồng Bắc Lệ. Members of shrine management committees, including a former deputy commune chairman, are accused of siphoning tickets, parking fees and donation proceeds, keeping the money off records and dividing it among themselves. Ongoing probes aim to recover the assets and prosecute the individuals responsible.
