Vietnam orders probe into electronic road tolling practices

Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc has ordered a multi-agency investigation into electronic road tolling activities following public outcry regarding the mandatory use of e-wallets for traffic payments.

The Ministry of Construction will lead a coordinated effort involving the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the State Bank of Vietnam. The objective is to inspect and rectify any violations within electronic tolling platforms and non-stop electronic toll collection (ETC) services.

The directive emphasizes that all operations must comply with existing laws and Build-Operate-Own (BOO) contracts to ensure the legal rights and interests of commuters are not compromised. Additionally, authorities are tasked with reviewing and improving legal regulations for electronic road payments to ensure transparency and balance the interests of the state, citizens, and businesses.
