Vietnam proposes holiday schedules for 2026 and 2027

The Ministry of Home Affairs has proposed several holiday schedules for 2026 and 2027 in Vietnam. For 2026, a proposal exists to allow a four-day consecutive holiday for Vietnam Culture Day on November 24 by swapping a working Monday for a Saturday. This aims to encourage cultural participation and boost tourism and consumption.

Regarding 2027, the Ministry has submitted two options for the Lunar New Year (Tet Dinh Mui) holiday. Option one suggests a 7-day break, while option two proposes a 10-day break involving a working day swap. Proposals for the 2027 National Day holiday also include a four-day continuous break.

In terms of labor rights and compensation, regulations specify that employees working on National Day (September 2) are entitled to at least 300% overtime pay, which can total 400% when including the base holiday salary. Additionally, from 2026, legally compliant overtime pay will be exempt from personal income tax.

In preparation for the 2027 Lunar New Year, transportation sectors are already planning capacity increases. Vietnam Airlines Group has announced the opening of nearly 3.7 million seats, marking an 11% increase compared to the previous peak period.
