Vietnam overtakes China as top fertilizer supplier to Cambodia

In the first half of 2026, Vietnam exported about 1.7 million tonnes of fertilizer, earning roughly US$933 million – up 52 % in volume and 108 % in value from the same period a year earlier. ASEAN remained Vietnam’s biggest market, accounting for about 35 % of total fertilizer export value.

Cambodia emerged as the largest ASEAN buyer, importing around 331 000 tonnes worth US$146 million, making Vietnam its #1 supplier and surpassing China. Thailand also rose to become the leading supplier to Cambodia for a specific product, while the Philippines, Malaysia and Myanmar recorded strong growth in imports. South Korea ranked as Vietnam’s second‑largest export destination, taking in about 149 000 tonnes valued at US$104 million. Exports to Japan fell 27 % in volume but rose 8 % in value, and Taiwan (China) saw a 45 % drop in volume and a 19 % decline in value.

The surge reflects steady demand for fertilizer across Southeast Asia and East Asia amid global supply‑demand imbalances and ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region.
