Vietnam National Assembly prepares first extraordinary session for August 2026

On 8 July, the Standing Committee of Vietnam’s 16th‑legislature National Assembly met to finalize preparations for the first extraordinary session slated for 3‑24 August 2026. Chairman Tran Thanh Man announced that the session will be held in two concentrated phases at the parliament building and will consider 27 items, including 20 laws and normative resolutions, three matters of national importance, and four draft laws.

The Committee will review between 24 and 27 legislative projects, among them amendments to the Housing Law, Real Estate Business Law, Land Law, and other statutes covering architecture, oil‑gas, banking, anti‑money‑laundering, criminal procedure and more. A new resolution will replace the existing resolution 96/2019 on crime prevention and the work of the People’s Procuracy and courts. The government has been asked to seek the Politburo’s opinion on the key proposals.

Chairman Tran Thanh Man stressed strict timelines: all dossiers must be completed by July, with no delays or withdrawals, and quality must meet the Party’s political directives. Officials who fail to meet the schedule will be held accountable to the Prime Minister and the Standing Committee.
