Vietnam Parliament seeks tighter oversight of gold market

Lawmaker Tô Ái Vang, deputy head of the specialized delegation of the 16th National Assembly, called for parliamentary supervision of Vietnam's gold bullion, jewelry and gemstone market. She urged the Assembly to clarify inter‑ministerial responsibilities, establish an independent verification system and tighten the legal framework, including higher administrative and criminal penalties for gold and gemstone fraud. Vang said the supervision results must become a mandatory basis for the government to amend decrees and regulations.

Real‑estate leader Lê Hoàng Châu, president of the HoREA association, highlighted that similar parliamentary oversight has helped resolve stalled property projects, noting that about 4,500 projects worth VND 2.5 million trillion were delayed due to land issues, with 838 projects in Ho Chi Minh City cleared after supervision. The Assembly has passed resolutions aimed at removing such bottlenecks.
