Vietnam pig prices drop to near two-year lows

Pig prices in Vietnam have experienced a significant decline, reaching levels not seen in nearly two years. On October 15, prices fell across multiple regions, with some areas dropping to 50,000 VND/kg, a level that approaches the actual cost of production.

In Northern Vietnam, prices decreased by 1,000 to 2,000 VND/kg in several provinces. Locations such as Bac Ninh, Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Hung Yen saw sharp declines to 52,000 VND/kg. The highest prices in the north are currently around 53,000 VND/kg.

Central and Highland regions also saw widespread reductions. Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa recorded the lowest prices in the country at 50,000 VND/kg. Meanwhile, in Southern Vietnam, prices in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Tay Ninh fell to 53,000 VND/kg, while An Giang, Vinh Long, and Can Tho reached 51,000 VND/kg.

The national average price is approximately 52,000 VND/kg. This downward trend, coupled with sluggish purchasing power, has raised concerns among farmers regarding profitability.
