Vietnam police arrest wanted embezzler Trần Như Ngọc after Cambodia handover

On 18 June, Vietnamese authorities at the Dinh Ba International Border Gate in Đồng Tháp province received 86 Vietnamese citizens deported by Cambodia. After identity checks, officials identified 20 individuals who had left Vietnam illegally.

During the processing, police seized a wanted suspect, Trần Như Ngọc (born 1994, Hải Phòng), who was on a warrant for asset embezzlement issued by the Hải Phòng City Police. He was taken into custody. Nineteen other returnees were fined for illegal border crossing, with total penalties approaching 137 million VND. The operation highlighted cooperation between Vietnam’s police, border guard units and Cambodian authorities in managing cross‑border crime and illegal migration.
