Vietnam police bust Chinese online fraud ring in Lao Cai hotel

The Lao Cai provincial police in Vietnam arrested 19 Chinese nationals who had set up a large‑scale online fraud operation inside the Song Hong View hotel. The group, led by Wang Xiang Sheng (Vương Trường Sinh), entered Vietnam via the Moc Bai border crossing after staying in Cambodia, then rented multiple rooms in the hotel to run the scheme.

The suspects installed laptops, smartphones, 5G transmission devices and Chinese social‑media apps to impersonate staff of online loan platforms and lure Chinese citizens seeking credit. They amassed personal data on roughly 25,000 Chinese individuals while operating from the hotel. On 12 June, police conducted a covert raid, seized 23 laptops, 26 phones, eight 5G units and other equipment, and took all 19 suspects into custody. The investigation continues, focusing on expanding the case and prosecuting the offenders under Vietnamese law.
