Vietnam police detain business owner and expose fruit investment scam affecting millions
On June 5, the Economic Crime Police in Đắk Lắk province detained Nguyễn Vũ Anh Tuấn, the owner of Anh Tuấn aluminum‑glass company, on charges of serious accounting violations, tax evasion and counterfeit‑goods trade. Investigators seized more than 14,000 fake KIN LONG door‑lock products valued at over VND 1.6 billion and found that the company kept parallel accounting books, under‑reporting revenue by roughly VND 379 billion, resulting in tax losses to the state of more than VND 4.3 billion.
Separately, police in Vĩnh Long province reported a social‑media investment scam that lured a resident, N.T.N.K., with promises of high returns from fruit‑export projects. After receiving small initial payouts, the scammers convinced her to invest larger sums, ultimately extracting over VND 438 million through fabricated fees for taxes, deposits and verification. The victim only realized the fraud after the scammers cut off contact.
Both cases highlight ongoing fraud and counterfeit‑goods challenges in Vietnam, prompting law‑enforcement warnings against unlicensed online investment schemes and emphasizing tighter scrutiny of corporate financial practices.
