Vietnam police launch nationwide crackdowns on fraud, gambling and counterfeit schemes

Vietnamese law‑enforcement agencies reported a series of operations against diverse criminal networks. In Quảng Trị, police detained Nguyen Huu Chi (born 1996) and Trần Lâm Thanh Phong for producing forged official stamps and documents using computers, printers and counterfeit paper.

Separate investigations across several provinces targeted illegal online football betting tied to the 2026 World Cup. In Hải Phòng authorities arrested five suspects and uncovered more than 1,600 betting transactions worth over VND 11 billion. In Hà Tĩnh, two men were charged with betting offences totalling VND 104 million, while in Nghệ An a two‑group network run by Nguyen Quý Cường and Nguyen Duy Sỹ handled over VND 6.6 billion in wagers.

A large‑scale cryptocurrency fraud was also busted. Lê Trung Hiếu and four accomplices were charged with running the “CVX” token scheme that lured more than 3,000 investors and misappropriated over VND 100 billion. Police seized computers, vehicles and records during simultaneous raids.

Other actions included the arrest of six suspects in Cần Thơ for staging a fake “infidelity trap” to extort VND 9.9 million, the dismantling of a multi‑province counterfeit‑gold ring that had sold fake jewellery worth roughly VND 150 million, and the prosecution of four bank employees in Quảng Ninh for violating banking regulations that caused a loss of VND 96 billion, of which about 81 % has been recovered.
