Vietnam police dismantle online gambling ring and probe gold‑sand scam

The Lam Dong Provincial Police announced the dismantling of an online football‑betting network that operated through the Bong88 (Viva88) website. Investigators traced more than 3.5 billion VND in transactions and placed four suspects in preventive detention, including the alleged ringleader Nguyen Minh Hùng and three accomplices.

In Son La Province, investigators are expanding a probe into a fraud scheme that sold sand buckets advertised as containing gold. The operation used YouTube livestreams and multiple bank accounts to collect 500,000 VND per bucket, then demanded additional fees before disappearing with the funds. Police have listed seven bank accounts and are urging anyone who transferred money to them to report to authorities.

Both cases highlight ongoing law‑enforcement efforts in Vietnam to combat internet‑based gambling and fraud scams.
