Vietnam police dismantle USDT gambling money‑laundering ring, 30 trillion đồng
Vietnamese police in Hai Phong have broken up a large‑scale money‑laundering operation that used the stablecoin USDT to move funds from illegal online gambling. The scheme, led by Chinese nationals including Huang Lee Min (also known as Lão Hoàng), employed more than 20 Vietnamese intermediaries. Hoàng Hải Vân (born 1984, Hanoi) handled 7‑10 million USDT each day – roughly 180‑260 billion VND – through four to five e‑wallets, selling the cryptocurrency to Le Trung Hiếu (born 1997, Hanoi), who transferred the proceeds to the gang’s accounts.
The ring operated a closed‑loop money‑transfer system from high‑end apartments in Gia Lâm, Hanoi, using hundreds of Android smartphones and multiple bank accounts to conceal the flow of an estimated 30 trillion VND in gambling proceeds. Police raids on 28 suspects resulted in the detention of 28 individuals and the initial prosecution of nine on charges of organized gambling and money laundering. The investigation continues to identify further participants and the full extent of the network.
