Vietnam police hand over 19 Chinese online fraud suspects to China

Provincial police in Lào Cai, Vietnam, conducted a raid on the Sông Hồng View hotel on 12 June 2026, seizing 23 laptops, 26 mobile phones, eight 5G transmission devices and 16 USB drives. The operation captured a group of 19 Chinese nationals who had entered Vietnam via Cambodia, travelled through the Mộc Bài border crossing in Tây Ninh, and rented multiple rooms in the hotel to run an online loan‑fraud scheme targeting Chinese borrowers. The suspects impersonated staff of loan‑app services, guiding victims through loan procedures before diverting the funds.

On 29 June 2026, the Lào Cai police, together with border‑guard units at the Lào Cai International Border Gate, transferred the 19 detainees and the confiscated equipment to the Public Security Ministry of Hong Kong (Châu Hồng Hà), China, for further investigation and prosecution.
