Vietnam police indict Nguyen Thi Kim Anh for usurious lending

On July 3, 2026 the Lang Son provincial police investigation agency filed an indictment against Nguyen Thi Kim Anh, an employee of the agency, for allegedly providing loans at usurious rates in civil transactions.

Investigators say she charged daily interest that translates to an annual rate of 540.71 % to 1,825 %, far above the legal ceiling, and illegally earned more than 100 million VND. The case remains under investigation, and authorities warned the public to use legitimate credit institutions and avoid "bốc bát họ" (black‑market lending).
