Vietnam Police Warn of Gold Fraud in Hand‑to‑Hand Trades

The Gia Lai provincial police announced that informal, hand‑to‑hand gold transactions conducted through social‑media groups and direct person‑to‑person deals pose significant fraud risks. Without official invoices or provenance documents, buyers are vulnerable to counterfeit, plated, or low‑purity gold, as well as schemes that use fake business credentials, deceptive pricing, and rapid asset swapping. The police urged the public to verify sellers, avoid unusually low prices, and report suspicious activities.

At the same time, falling gold prices have prompted many Vietnamese consumers to consider purchases. Experts advise focusing on the sell‑price column, monitoring the spread between buying and selling rates, and selecting the appropriate gold type—such as 9999 bullion, gold rings, or jewelry—based on investment goals. Understanding these price dynamics helps buyers assess whether a lower market price truly represents a good entry point.
