Vietnam police warn of VNeID fraud targeting parents in Cà Mau
The police in Khánh Hưng commune, Cà Mau province, have issued an urgent warning about a fraud scheme that impersonates local officers. Scammers call parents, claim that student records have errors, and demand that the children’s VNeID electronic ID be activated to level 2 before school enrollment can proceed. They pressure victims to transfer money or pay a “processing fee,” and they send malicious links via Zalo or Telegram that install malware on the victim’s phone. The malware can read OTP codes and automatically withdraw funds from bank accounts, while also harvesting personal data and ID images for resale or illegal credit.
Police advise citizens not to provide personal information, not to make any transfers, to lock their bank accounts, and to report any suspicious contact to the nearest police station immediately.
