Vietnam police warn public of fake traffic‑fine SMS scams

The police and the Cybersecurity Administration have warned that scammers are sending mass SMS messages that claim a vehicle has violated traffic rules and must pay a "cold fine". The messages contain links that mimic official sites using keywords such as "csgt" or "bocongan" to trick recipients.

Clicking the links can lead to theft of bank account credentials, OTP codes or the installation of malware that enables fraudsters to seize assets. Authorities advise people not to follow any links from unknown numbers, never share personal or banking information, and to verify any fine through the official VNeTraffic app or legitimate government channels. They also recommend blocking suspicious numbers and reporting spam messages on the device.
