Vietnam Politburo issues directive on material industry development

The Politburo of Vietnam has issued Conclusion No. 83-KL/TW regarding the development of the nation's material industry. While the sector has contributed to economic growth, infrastructure construction, and job creation, the Politburo noted that development has not yet reached its full potential.

Key challenges identified include a heavy reliance on resource extraction, high energy consumption, and significant environmental pollution. The industry currently suffers from low added value and a lack of mastery over core and high technologies. Furthermore, Vietnam remains heavily dependent on imports for high-quality, high-tech, and specialized materials.

Structural issues cited include fragmented policies, overlapping planning, and a lack of long-term investment for strategic material projects. The Politburo also highlighted gaps between basic research and commercial production, insufficient human resource quality, and inefficient resource utilization, including instances of illegal mining.
