Vietnam prepares for 2026-2027 school year with new guidelines and border school construction

Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training has issued guidelines for the 2026-2027 academic year, emphasizing educational breakthroughs. Key directives include prohibiting advance teaching for Grade 1, promoting STEM, AI, and English, and ensuring equitable access to education. The Ministry also instructed local authorities to reorganize school networks to streamline management while cautioning against mechanical mergers that might hinder student access, particularly in ethnic minority, mountainous, and border regions.

In Gia Lai province, construction is being accelerated on a series of multi-level boarding schools in border communes to ensure completion before the new school year. The project, with a total investment of over 1.5 trillion VND, aims to provide classrooms for approximately 7,108 students across 212 classrooms. Currently, construction across seven sites is roughly 84% complete, despite challenges posed by the Central Highlands rainy season. Over 2,500 workers, including 819 military personnel, are working day and night to meet the deadline.
