Vietnam presents “Dat thep” play at BRICS Theater Festival in India

A Vietnamese artistic delegation presented the theatrical production “Dat thep” (Land of Steel) at the BRICS Theater Festival 2026 in India. Held from October 12 to 14 at the Shriram Performing Arts Centre, the play aims to introduce Vietnamese history, culture, and the spirit of resistance to an international audience.

The performance recreates the history of Cu Chi, a region known for its resilience during wars against France and the United States. The script, written by director Le Quy Duong, centers on the life of Nguyen Thi Ranh, a recognized Heroic Mother of Vietnam whose eight children and two grandchildren died during the conflicts. The play depicts the sacrifices of local residents and revolutionary fighters who defended their homeland amidst heavy bombardment.

Through a combination of acting, sound, lighting, and traditional melodies from southern Vietnam, the production seeks to convey themes of patriotism, family bonds, and the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people to international spectators.
