Vietnam President To Lam Calls for Accelerated Growth and Policy Action

Vietnam’s General Secretary and President To Lam stressed that economic growth must be accompanied by jobs, higher incomes, affordable housing, education, health care and a better environment. He noted that macro‑economic stability is being maintained and inflation is under control despite global pressures, but the current growth rate of about 8.2% falls short of the 9.7% target. More than two‑thirds of provinces are lagging, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and growth remains uneven.

To Lam urged the government to launch a special action programme for the final six months of the year, with clear responsibilities, timelines and results. The plan calls for fast‑tracking stalled projects, freeing up abandoned land, cutting red‑tape and boosting investment in strategic infrastructure such as high‑speed rail, ports and digital networks. Parallel measures announced include new aviation safety rules, anti‑smuggling and anti‑waste regulations, reforms for people awaiting exit visas, and cooperation with Timor Leste on legal and digital reforms. Provinces such as Tây Ninh, Bắc Ninh and Khánh Hòa highlighted progress in foreign investment and digital‑economy development, reinforcing the push for a two‑digit growth rate in 2026.
