Vietnam President To Lam calls for sports development to boost national strength

Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam has called for the advancement of physical education and sports as a core component of national strength and human development. During a working session on October 2, To Lam emphasized that physical fitness should be viewed as a strategic element for improving population quality and human resources rather than just a socio-cultural activity.

The leader directed officials to prioritize school sports by improving facilities, equipment, and teaching staff, while also exploring ways to allow public use of school sports facilities outside of school hours. He also noted that urban planning for industrial zones and new residential areas must incorporate dedicated spaces for physical activity.

To monitor progress, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is tasked with coordinating with the Ministries of Health and Education and Training to develop indicators regarding physical condition, activity levels, and access to sports, specifically targeting children, students, workers, and the elderly.
