Vietnam President To Lam Hosts ASEAN Ambassadors, Calls for United Community
On 4 August 2026 in Hanoi, Vietnam’s General Secretary and President To Lam received the ambassadors and chargés d’affaires of ASEAN member states. Marking the 59th anniversary of ASEAN, the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, and Vietnam’s 31st year of ASEAN membership, he thanked the regional partners for supporting Vietnam’s development and urged them to continue acting as bridges for deeper cooperation.
To Lam praised ASEAN’s achievements across politics, security‑defence, economy‑society and culture, and expressed confidence that the bloc will maintain solidarity and successfully build the ASEAN Community by 2045. He reiterated Vietnam’s foreign‑policy principles of independence, self‑reliance, peace, friendship and multilateral diversification. The Philippine ambassador, Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III, conveyed greetings from ASEAN leaders and highlighted Vietnam’s progress toward becoming a modern industrial middle‑income country by 2030 and a high‑income nation by 2045.
