Vietnam President To Lam says central party will not reorder commune boundaries

At a national conference on 29 July, General Secretary and President To Lam stressed that the Party Central Committee is not proposing any re‑organisation of commune‑level administrative boundaries. He explained that the existing two‑tier local government system is functioning stably and that any adjustment should be initiated only by provinces or cities that genuinely need it, based on party policy, state law, planning, governance realities and the legitimate wishes of the people.

The remarks were part of the implementation of the resolutions adopted by the Party’s 3rd Central Committee meeting, which set out major policies for party building, the political system and national development up to 2030 and 2045. To Lam called for clear, accountable implementation of these directives and for continued improvement of land use, housing and livelihoods for those affected by land acquisition.
