The Office of the President of Vietnam held a press conference to announce the orders for 15 laws recently passed by the 16th National Assembly. These legislative updates cover a wide range of sectors, including petroleum, investment, customs, banking, urban development, and telecommunications.

A major highlight is the amended Law on Investment, which is set to take effect on March 1, 2027. This law focuses on reducing administrative burdens by shifting from pre-inspection to post-inspection management. It significantly reduces 62 business sectors and modifies 14 others to improve the investment environment. Additionally, the law introduces a ban on the use of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for human inhalation starting January 1, 2027, with exceptions for medical and scientific purposes.

The 2026 Law on Petroleum aims to enhance decentralization and simplify procedures to unlock resources, specifically empowering Petrovietnam. In the technology sector, amendments to laws regarding radio frequencies, telecommunications, and electronic transactions will cut 47 business conditions and reduce licensing costs and time. Furthermore, new amendments to military and defense laws define five specific instances of evading military service and aim to streamline local military organizations.
