Vietnam probes exam score anomalies in nine provinces

Days after the Ministry of Education and Training released the 2026 high‑school graduation exam results, social‑media posts alleged unusually high marks in several locations. By 13 July authorities in nine Vietnamese provinces – Tuyên Quang, Quảng Trị, Phú Thọ, Nghệ An, Quảng Ngãi, Hà Tĩnh, Lào Cai, Gia Lai and Cà Mau – had opened investigations, verifications or criminal probes.

In Tuyên Quang, 146–147 students received a perfect score of 10 in mathematics, prompting police to charge 19 suspects, including a maths teacher and a deputy principal, with abusing official position. Similar accusations of exam‑room assistance and sudden score jumps were reported in Quảng Trị and Hà Tĩnh. Provincial education departments are auditing the examinations and have considered retaking the math component at the affected sites. Experts say the cases highlight the need for a comprehensive review of exam administration procedures.

The ministry has ordered continued scrutiny and the preparation of corrective measures to safeguard the integrity of future exams.
