Vietnam promotes Mekong sub-regional cooperation

Vietnam is actively contributing to new momentum for sub-regional cooperation in the Mekong region. On September 30, in Quang Ninh, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang attended Senior Officials' Meetings (SOM) for the Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam (CLMV) cooperation mechanism and the Mekong-Japan cooperation mechanism.

The meetings focused on evaluating opportunities and challenges, determining future cooperation priorities, and preparing for the 12th CLMV Summit and the 13th Mekong-Japan Summit. At the CLMV meeting, Deputy Minister Hang emphasized the long-term value of CLMV cooperation in narrowing development gaps, enhancing economic connectivity, and ensuring that the ASEAN integration process benefits all member states.

To prepare for the upcoming CLMV Summit, officials were urged to focus on three main areas: refining summit documents to align with new development requirements, recommending initiatives to leaders regarding economic connectivity, tourism, human resource development, and sustainable water management, and renewing cooperation commitments to strengthen solidarity and implementation efficiency.
