Vietnam promotes proactive trade remedies to protect domestic production
At the third Trade Remedies Forum, held on September 18, Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized the need to shift from a reactive approach to proactive risk management regarding trade remedies. Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan stated that these tools are intended to ensure fair competition and protect domestic production capacity rather than restrict competition.
Effective use of trade remedies is expected to encourage businesses to invest in technology, maintain employment, and strengthen supply chains. The forum highlighted the importance of coordination between state management agencies, industry associations, and enterprises. Key requirements for effective response include enhancing early warning systems, improving data quality, and increasing the capacity to utilize trade remedy tools.
Vietnam is actively implementing trade remedies for both imports and exports. Regarding imports, the country has initiated 62 trade remedy investigations and is currently maintaining 37 measures against imported goods to ensure a fair competitive environment.
