Vietnam proposes four measures to boost ASEAN solidarity and resilience

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang led Vietnam's delegation at the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila on July 21 and put forward four proposals aimed at strengthening the bloc’s solidarity, resilience and connectivity.

The measures call for continued adherence to ASEAN principles and deeper dialogue, the development of a more resilient and competitive ASEAN economic integration through an economic security framework, the promotion of a people‑centred ASEAN that leverages its “unity in diversity,” and the reinforcement of ASEAN’s strategic autonomy and centrality amid intensifying major‑power competition. Philippine Foreign Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro underscored the importance of collective strength, stating, “In a fractured global landscape, no single nation can weather these storms alone.” The proposals were presented as part of broader efforts to shape ASEAN’s future in a volatile international environment.
