Vietnam proposes new compensation options for old apartment renovations

The Vietnamese Government has proposed amendments to the draft Housing Law to provide apartment owners with more diverse compensation options during the renovation and reconstruction of old apartment complexes.

Under the proposal submitted to the National Assembly, residents would no longer be limited to receiving cash or resettlement housing. Instead, they could also opt for social housing within the area or land use rights equivalent to the value of the resettlement housing.

Experts suggest this adjustment is necessary to address the varying needs of residents, some of whom may prefer to relocate or seek different types of housing. Legal experts note that these changes aim to give citizens a more substantial voice in the compensation process, particularly in high-value land areas where traditional resettlement housing may not be the most optimal choice.
