Vietnam proposes organ donation rights for minors

The Vietnamese government has proposed new amendments to the Law on Donation, Collection, and Transplantation of Human Tissues and Organs, and the Donation and Collection of Cadavers. A key proposal involves allowing individuals under the age of 18 to donate tissues, organs, or their bodies after death, provided they have registered their intent or have expressed their wishes through verbal or written means with legal representative consent.

Additionally, the draft law includes provisions for individuals aged 15 to 17 to donate regenerative tissues while living to treat family members under specific conditions. The proposal also outlines age requirements for living donors, stating that those donating to non-family members must be at least 25 years old. The draft aims to maintain core principles of voluntary donation, equality, and transparency, with coordination managed by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Coordination Center.
