Vietnam proposes reforms to Food Safety Law
The Ministry of Health is presenting a draft of the amended Food Safety Law to the National Assembly to address limitations in the 2010 legislation. Key proposed reforms include modernizing management methods by monitoring food throughout its entire lifecycle and improving traceability.
Legislative discussions have highlighted the need to reduce overlapping responsibilities between government levels and ensure that local authorities, particularly at the commune level, are provided with sufficient human and financial resources to enforce regulations. There is also a focus on enhancing oversight of food safety in online business environments.
Additionally, new regulations aim to standardize school meal processes, establishing clear responsibilities for local authorities, schools, and service providers. This includes transparent planning, nutritional guidance from the Ministry of Health, and stricter criteria for selecting food service providers to ensure safety and quality for students.
