Vietnam proposes six new national railway lines near Hanoi

The Vietnam Railway Authority has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Construction for the planning of railway lines and stations within the Hanoi hub area. The draft plan outlines the construction of six new national railway lines, all designed as double-track systems with a 1,435mm gauge.

In addition to new construction, the proposal includes the maintenance and upgrading of five existing railway lines passing through the Hanoi region. Key objectives include modernizing current infrastructure to meet development goals for 2030 and a long-term vision through 2050.

Specific upgrades include: - The Hanoi - Hai Phong line will be upgraded to ensure safe operations on its current 1,000mm single-track system. - For the Hanoi - Lang Son line, the section from Hanoi Station to Gia Lam Station is proposed to be converted into urban railway. - The Hanoi - Bac Ninh section will be upgraded to a 1,435mm double-track system. - The Hanoi - Thai Nguyen line will see upgrades to the Dong Anh - Luu Xa and Luu Xa - Quan Trieu segments to standardize the gauge to 1,435mm. - The Hanoi - Lao Cai and Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City lines are also slated for various upgrades and improvements to ensure safety and connectivity.
