Vietnam authorities prosecute 74 in Xoi Lac TV illegal streaming ring
The Hung Yen Provincial People's Procuracy has issued an indictment against 74 defendants involved in an illegal sports streaming network, including the Xoi Lac TV and Cakhia TV websites. The operation specialized in broadcasting football matches without authorization and promoting online gambling through advertising contracts.
Investigations revealed that Pham Nguyen Dung, a businessman, provided the necessary capital, including servers, hardware, and office space, to fund the expansion of the system. He partnered with Nguyen Cong Dinh, a programmer known by the pseudonym “Batman,” who developed the technology and served as a commentator. The two reportedly split profits equally.
The network attracted large audiences by offering free access to matches, subsequently generating revenue through betting advertisements and banners. The defendants face various charges, including copyright infringement, organizing gambling, and disseminating depraved cultural products. Vietnam Satellite Digital Television (VSTV/K+) estimates its losses from these illegal streaming activities at approximately 2,207 billion VND.
