Vietnam provinces advance sustainable high-tech agriculture
Vietnamese provinces Lam Dong and Vinh Long are advancing sustainable and high-tech agricultural strategies to boost export value and meet international green standards.
In Lam Dong, the focus is on creating a ‘green passport’ for agricultural products through deep processing, traceability, and high-tech application. The province reported export turnover of over $2.2 billion for the first eight months of 2026, a 4.39% increase from the previous year. Key export drivers include coffee ($551 million), pepper ($101.7 million), and vegetables and fruits ($127.8 million). Lam Dong currently manages over 109,500 hectares of high-tech agriculture and has established 1,296 planting area codes for export.
Vinh Long is prioritizing the development of organic, low-emission coconut production. The province, which holds the largest coconut area in Vietnam, aims to expand its organic coconut area to over 44,000 hectares this year. To support sustainability, Vinh Long is researching the production of biochar from coconut shell by-products to improve soil quality and reduce emissions. The coconut industry in Vinh Long is expected to reach a production value of 8,150 billion VND in 2025, with exports estimated at approximately $600 million.
